![]() A narrow aperture focusses the light into a narrower angle. If you open it right up, the light might not reach the widest points as the angle at which the light travels in becomes more extreme. A wider aperture means that you’re exposing more of the sensor to light. This causes the light to be less intense at the edges. The longer the barrel of the lens, the less peripheral light gets through to the sensors, as it comes in from extreme angles. Many retro or vintage filters on your smartphone will use vignettes to create that old-time feel - usually with a sepia tone added to the image. For vintage effects - many old cameras didn’t have the technology to remove vignettes or reduce them when shooting, so the vignette has become associated with a retro look.A subtle vignette can do this, pushing them slightly to the center but not cutting off the rest of the image in the process. Sometimes you might want to gently move a viewer’s eye across various aspects of the image. If your image has lines that draw the eye away from the subject or a second point of focus that shouldn’t be there, a vignette can be used to keep the eye on the main subject of your photo. Counter distracting lines or points of focus.Vignettes can be particularly effective in portrait photography or when creating macro images. When you’ve got a centralized subject, vignettes keep people focussed on them, removing distracting background details. These vignettes are the easiest to control. This is when you add the vignette intentionally, either through a combination of a camera’s lenses, filters and effects or in editing. Mechanical vignettes can also be created when you add filters that aren’t the correct size for your camera or lens. But vignettes can be caused if you choose the wrong lens for your shot, as not all the light hits the sensor as it should. Most lenses that have large hoods are designed to reduce vignettes. This can be a result of using the wrong type of lens or filter. This can lead to the edges of these images appearing darker. This sensor is flat, so while most of the light coming through the lens hits it head on, the light from the edges often hits the outside area of the flat sensors at an angle. This is caused by the construction of the digital sensor in the camera. Light entering the camera can be blocked by the barrel and wide-angle lenses - as light takes longer to travel from the edge of the lens to the center, creating a dullness. They are most common on lenses with large apertures or barrels. These are natural vignettes, added by the type of lens you are using. We usually talk about four main types of vignette: The ways vignettes are created also affects how to add and edit them. It’s usually most apparent in the corners as the vignette creates a rounded effect within an otherwise square or rectangular photo. The gradient of the effect can be gentle, with just a subtle edge to your photo or more impactful, where parts of the image are actually obscured by the vignette.

It’s not as good as using Qustodio or Apple Screen time to block apps on the devices themselves, and it doesn’t let you block apps at certain times: you either block them for a specific profile or don’t. Blocking is achieved by preventing access to all known domains (web services and websites) that are associated with that app. You can then enable explicit content filters (for websites) and block apps. You need to first give permission in the Alexa app for each device that can be controlled in this way. With Eero being an Amazon company and there being integration with Alexa, once you’ve enabled the Eero skill in the Alexa app you can ask Alexa (on your phone or Echo speaker) to turn the guest Wi-Fi network on and off, pause Wi-Fi on specific devices (requires Eero Secure) and also find things, such as phones. Thread support will likely come into its own when products using the new Matter smart home standard become commonplace. You can use Thread and Zigbee simultaneously, though. There’s also support for Thread devices, such as smart locks, fans, thermostats and others, but this is disabled by default. That allows you to control compatible lights, plugs, switches and other gadgets in the Alexa app and by speaking to Alexa.Įffectively, there’s the same device support as you get with the smart hub built into certain Amazon Echo and Echo Show devices. For example, no idea if these results are typical for a house and my speeds will be fine in the end. With a Zigbee hub built into each Eero Pro 6 router, you can easily connect Zigbee devices to Alexa. Would love Input if you know how to interpret the results I gathered. seems like the lathe and plaster walls are having a large impact given how poorly SnR is not very far away.Īlthough I know I want as high SNR as possible, The Netspot support site talks a bit about SNR and says that 25dB is "good".Ī ratio of 10-15dB is the accepted minimum to establish an unreliable connection 16-24dB (decibels) is usually considered poor 25-40dB is good and a ratio of 41dB or higher is considered excellent.I read that an SnR of below 40 was danger zone but no idea if this is true.as expected, 2.4Ghz was better at getting through walls than 5Ghz.as expected, SnR is worse the farther you get away from the AP.These are the results for both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz. It just measured SnR and Signal strength. I don't have internet yet at the house so wasn't able to use Netspot in "active scanning" mode to get download/upload speeds. ![]() ![]() ![]() So I connected the TPLink router this afternoon in the approximate places I was thinking of having the Ubiquiti APs and used Netspot on My MacBook Pro to measure the signal to noise ratios all over the house. Second Ethernet drop is predicting from old owner who surface mounted a car 5e cable outside the house to get to closet of second floor. I plan on having two Ethernet drops: one in the hallway of the first floor with a plan to ceiling mount a Ubiquiti AP. For example what I'm seeing in SnR might not be abnormal, but I've never done a wifi site survey like this so it's all new to me. I'm not a wireless expert so looking for advice on this from those that are. My goal is doing this today was to try to ease my mind about how the walls would impact Wifi and help think about what wifi system to go with and where to place APs. The house is built in 1905 so my ability to run Ethernet is limited. I plugged in a TPLink 1750 Archer C7 today at the new house (haven't moved in) to get an idea how the lathe and plaster walls impact wireless signals. ![]() After all, words alone may not always be enough to capture the full picture of who you are and what you can offer to others. Some of the River Rouge buildings were designed by architect Albert Kahn. With its own docks in the dredged Rouge River, 100 miles (160 km) of interior railroad track, its own electricity plant, and integrated steel mill, the titanic Rouge was able to turn raw materials into running vehicles within this single complex, a prime example of vertical-integration production. The Rouge complex measures 1.5 miles (2.4 km) wide by 1 mile (1.6 km) long, including 93 buildings with nearly 16 million square feet (1.5 km 2) of factory floor space. Yes, it means that I must run CCC for each disk, a bit tedious, but I really don't care since CCC runs in the background. So, I back up important files directly to individual external drives, known as JBOD (just a bunch of disks). RAIDs are great systems, and provide security in almost all cases, but they are not 100% infallible. It took out all the disks comprising my RAID. A hardware problem once wiped out a year's worth of files on a RAID external I was using. RAIDs can completely fail, which I have unfortunately experienced. While my computer's working drive is a four-disk RAID 5, I do not use a RAID system for backup. I back up photo and work files to no fewer than four external hard drives. CCC has a bit of a learning curve, but that is inevitable given the number of ways it can be configured to individual needs. Inexpensive, updated regularly (usually at no cost), and very well supported with extensive documentation. Since you can dissect your backups into manageable bits, Chronosync doesn’t eat up your RAM or heat up your CPU, unlike the TimeMachine.Ĭhronosync is like Swiss army for both tasks of versioning and backing up.I've used CCC for almost as long as it has been around, and it is an outstanding program. Best of all, your mac will never be chocking and crying due to over-working. You can tell it to backup some folders just once in a day (say the downloads folder) while versioning the most active, working folder, Projects folder, every 30 minutes. This beast does both the syncing and the versioning like a pro.Ĭhronosyc permits a more fine-tuned backup and versioning schema. That is when I decided to migrate to Chronosync. But, the versioning system in CCC is not really useful to keep track of changes in a file. CCC also keeps versions of files, to be fair. I have been using Carbon Copy Cloner for keeping bootable backups. That is where I started to check out Chronosync. Furthermore, Time Machine doesn’t support bookable backups. It sucks the battery juice from my machine. When I was using it, it topped the applications which consume the most of energy of my machine. In addition, as it tries to copy all the files in the disk, Time machine is a huge resource hog. Some files are crucial: I wanted them versioned in every 20-30 minute because I often want to refer back the old versions. I want more versions on some files and less on others. One strategy is to rely on Time Machine, as many people do. The problem with time machine it that it is less configurable. so, I need commit them with a separate program (via the Terminal). Still, things become too hectic when I made a lot of changes distributed in many folders. I tried to supplement the git system with Keyboard maestro to automatically commit. Sometimes, I want to revert back learning that I have no version of that certain editing. My latex editor, TexSTudio even supports committing git commands.Īfter a while, I have however realized that I often forget to commit my changes. I have been using Git for a while to keep versions of my latex files. But, even if these tools are as useful for writers as for developers, they are less popular among writers probably because of the technical nature of them. Subversion has been the most dominant system for ages. It improves your productivity as you are relieved of wrong changes. You can get the old version anyways: why do you worry to make the changes. Version is a great strategy to make a carefree editing. You wish you have the old version of your file. Not all the changes we make on our document are useful. It is different from the backup because you can go back in time and revert back to some of the changes you made. In addition, versioning system is very helpful. Writing a very important document needs some care, a reliable backup is crucial. It’s quite tasty if you’re looking for a seafood style broth.īoth packets contain an ungodly amount of sodium, over 3,000 mg, so do be aware of that – it’s probably the saltiest packaged ramen I’ve ever eaten. It’s a thinner broth than the shoyu, but still includes that same level of greasiness. It has a slight bite to it when going down that is not unpleasant, almost as though there’s a slight tanginess in there. The oriental flavor is a fishier broth, not unlike a seafood miso. All in all, it’s a good bowl of soup, but some modification may be required depending on your taste. If I had to do it over, I would probably use a little less of the flavor packet that includes the oil, and make sure the noodles are slightly less cooked. The thinness of the noodle makes it easier to get a good helping on your chopsticks. The noodles themselves are a good consistency – they’re not as thick as your typical Top Ramen, which can lead to mushy, hard to slurp junk. So, does anyone have any alternate methods for accomplishing this task? I come across a lot of disks and I don't mind formatting them so they can be reused, but a lot of times every other disk fouls the heads so bad that it makes testing extremely tedious. Sure, its possible to open the drive and clean it with a cotton swab every time but if the crud gets stuck on there a cotton swab may not be abrasive enough, not to mention all the time spent removing and opening the drive every time it needs cleaned. In the long term, it seems like it'd be good to find an alternative to using new old stock floppy head cleaners. The rest of the cleaning surface is pristine, but I don't know of any way to force the drive to move the head. So, is there a way around this? Has anyone ever CLEANED a floppy head cleaner? Along those same lines, is it possible to tell the drive to seek somewhere else on the disk to move the head to another area after its been used a lot? With my 5 1/4 cleaner it has a visible gray stripe at the edge where it has been used. Obviously you don't want the crud ending up back on your drive heads, or worse, causing damage to them, so they recommend not to use the cleaner too many times. The problem is, they say they have a very limited number of uses (usually like 20), but I would assume that this is only the case because the drive will always seek to the same spot so the crud always ends up in the same area of the disk. Now I'm finding that I should really get a 3.5" cleaner too. These are getting more expensive every time I look them up. One of them I have used many times while testing old disks. I have a couple of 5 1/4 floppy drive cleaners. |
